Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin

I’ve just finished reading this book  by @hollymartin00 which I received from @bonnier_publish via @NetGalley at the beginning of August.

I had a feeling of deja vu after a few pages so had a look at my Goodreads  account where I have reviewed the books I have read for years. There I found my review for this very book from 2nd December 2015

I loved the cover of this book straight away and Holly really does know how to draw you in and get you absorbed in this book. Her descriptions are spot on, her writing superb. All in all a must have feel good book in my opinion.

I rate this book 5/5

As Weekends Go by Jan Brigden

Thank You so much @ChocLituk for #AsWeekendsGo by @Briggy44 which I saw over on @NetGalley

As I live just up the road from York, where the story is set, I thought I would see if I could make a connection. Unfortunately this story wasn’t for me. It kind of reminded me of Jilly Coopers work and that’s not my cup of tea. Please don’t get me wrong, this book really is well written its just, footballers wives kind of thing isn’t for me.

Publication date 7th September 2016

When Rebecca’s friend Abi convinces her to get away from it all at the fabulous Hawksley Manor hotel in York, it seems too good to be true. Pampering and relaxation is just what Rebecca needs to distract herself from the creeping suspicion that her husband, Greg, is hiding something from her.

She never imagined that by the end of the weekend she would have dined with celebrities or danced the night away in exclusive clubs. Nor could she have predicted she would meet famous footballer, Alex Heath, or that he would be the one to show her that she deserved so much more …

But no matter how amazing a weekend is, it’s always back to reality come Monday morning – isn’t it?

When Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard lock eyes across a disreputable backwater bar, something definitely sparks. Shaw gives off a dangerous vibe that makes men wary and inspires women to sit up and take notice. None feel that undercurrent more strongly than savvy businesswoman Jordie, who doesn’t belong in a seedy dive on the banks of a bayou. But here she is . . . and Shaw Kinnard is here to kill her.

As Shaw and his partner take aim, Jordie is certain her time has come. But Shaw has other plans and abducts Jordie, hoping to get his hands on the $30 million her brother has stolen and, presumably, hidden. However, Shaw is not the only one looking for the fortune. Her brother’s ruthless boss and the FBI are after it as well. Now on the run from the feds and a notorious criminal, Jordie and Shaw must rely on their wits-and each other-to stay alive.

Miles away from civilization and surrounded by swampland, the two play each other against their common enemies. Jordie’s only chance of survival is to outwit Shaw, but it soon becomes clear to Shaw that Jordie isn’t entirely trustworthy, either. Was she in on her brother’s scam, or is she an innocent pawn in a deadly vendetta? And just how valuable is her life to Shaw, her remorseless and manipulative captor? Burning for answers-and for each other-this unlikely pair ultimately make a desperate move that could be their last.

With nonstop plot twists and the tantalizing sexual tension that has made Sandra Brown one of the world’s best-loved authors, STING will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the final pages.

#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sandra Brown jolts the reader from the first page of this heart-pounding story of corruption, treachery, and ceaseless deception . . .where nothing is what it seems and every truth brought to light exposes a darker lie.

The Gratitude Diaries by Janice Kaplan

Thanks to @HodderBooks @YellowKiteBooks @bookbridgr and of course the good lady herself @JaniceKaplan2 for this great book and allowing me to review it.

I adored the cover of this book as soon as it popped through my letter box, its so bright and reminds me somehow of Mary Poppins.

I’m not a fan of self help books, if I need help, I’d head to a professional. This book wasn’t really like that at all, it was cleverly written and researched and was a joy to read for this “non moody, non grumpy old woman”

I rate this book 9/10

In this New York Times bestseller, Janice Kaplan spends a year living gratefully and transforms her marriage, family life, work and health. Her pioneering reseach was praised in People and Vanity Fair and hailed on TV shows including Today, The O’Reilly Factor, and CBS’s The Talk.

On New Year’s Eve, journalist and former Parade Editor-in-Chief Janice Kaplan makes a promise to be grateful and look on the bright side of whatever happens. She realizes that how she feels over the next months will have less to do with the events that occur than her own attitude and perspective. Getting advice at every turn from psychologists, academics, doctors, and philosophers, she brings readers on a smart and witty journey to discover the value of appreciating what you have.

Relying on both amusing personal experiences and extensive research, Kaplan explores how gratitude can transform every aspect of life including marriage and friendship, money and ambition, and health and fitness. She learns how appreciating your spouse changes the neurons of your brain and why saying thanks helps CEOs succeed. Through extensive interviews with experts and lively conversations with real people including celebrities like Matt Damon, Daniel Craig, and Jerry Seinfeld, Kaplan discovers the role of gratitude in everything from our sense of fulfillment to our children’s happiness.
With warmth, humor, and appealing insight, Janice’s journey will empower readers to think positively and start living their own best year ever.
