The Singalong Society for Singletons by Katey Lovell

I only received this eBook yesterday and I have devoured it, thanks to @HarperImpulse for getting in touch with me, and to @Katey5678 for writing it xx

Monique and Issy are teachers, housemates and lovers of musicals! Their Friday night routine consists of snacks, wine and the Frozen DVD. So when Monique’s boyfriend moves to America for a year and her sister Hope moves in because of her own relationship woes, Friday nights get a new name… ‘The Singalong Society for Singletons’!

It’s a chance to get together, sing along to their favourite tracks from the best-loved West End shows, and forget the worries of work, relationships and love (or lack of it). But when Issy shares the details of their little group further afield, they get some unexpected new members who might just change their opinions on singledom for good….

As soon as I read what this book was about I just knew I had to start reading it straight away. I started reading it in bed and smiled all the way through. This really is a feel good book and I found myself humming an array of musical songs today since finishing the book. It really has got inside my head and do you know something, I think I like it 💖

I was actually quite sad when I came to the end but there are loads more musicals in the world so, who knows, a follow up?

This book has a wonderful storyline, fantastic characters and Katey has done a fabulous job at bringing it all together.

I rate this book 5/5

Hunt the Dragon (SEAL Team Six #6)by Don Mann, Ralph Pezzullo

This book was sent to me by @MulhollandUK and @HodderBooks from over on @bookbridgr for a honest review. I did try to get into it but I really couldn’t. Possibly because its a completely different genre to what I normally read, but I thought I would give it a go anyway. I just couldn’t.

This isn’t to say there is anything at all wrong with this book, its just not my kind of reading material.

Hackers from the North Korean government are one click away from obtaining black market nuclear weapons. Only the heroes of SEAL Team Six can stop them.
In Don Mann and Ralph Pezzullo’s newest novel, Captain Thomas Crocker and Mancini of SEAL Team Six’s Black Cell are in Las Vegas after conducting a training exercise in the desert with new members of the team. Lounging by the pool at Caesar’s Palace, they witness an argument between hotel security guards and three Asian men in corporate attire that quickly turns physical. Crocker and Mancini give chase and soon corner the businessmen, who claim to be Chinese diplomats under the protection of diplomatic immunity. Except the men don’t respond when the head of hotel security–Crocker’s old friend–addresses them in Chinese.

That night someone hacks into the Nevada Power Company system, and Las Vegas goes completely dark. The businessmen set their hotel suite on fire and escape amidst the chaos. When Crocker and the rest of his SEAL Team Six attempt to track them down, the squad finds itself in the middle of an international plot with dangerous geopolitical ramifications: a desperate scheme by an embattled North Korean government that combines cyber warfare with old-fashioned money laundering and the theft of black market nuclear weapons.

Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe by Debbie Johnson

The lovely @HarperImpulse made my day when they sent over @debbiemjohnson upcoming new release from @NetGalley

Becca Fletcher hates Christmas so much, she’s considering getting ‘Bah Humbug!’ tattooed on her forehead. She has her reasons for being Little Miss Grinch; Reasons that make this the very worst time of year for her.

Now, though, she can’t avoid her version of ho-ho-hell – because she’s travelling to the Comfort Food Cafe to spend the festive season with her sister Laura, and her family. She’s expecting mulled wine, the smell of pine trees, 24-hour Christmas movie marathons and all kinds of very merry torture.

But little does Becca know that the Comfort Food Cafe is like no other place on earth. Perched on a snow-covered hill on a windswept bay, it’s a place full of friendship; a place where broken hearts can heal, and a place where new love can blossom. It’s a place where Becca’s Christmas miracle really could happen – if only she can let it…

Inviting readers new and old to pull up a cosy armchair, Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe is the novella-length follow-up to the 2016 best-seller Summer at the Comfort Food Cafe.

I wanted to lick the cream of the cover of this book, it looks so delicious. The content was just as good too. It was a true festive book with a lovely heartwarming story which really warmed ones cockles.

Its a hot chocolate in book form, its comfortable and makes you smile with a storyline of friendship and some nice quirky characters too. Just what you need to get you in the festive mood.

Christmas at the Dog & Duck by Jill Steeples

Thanks again to @Aria_Fiction for the opportunity to review another of their books from over on @NetGalley. This time by @jillesteeples #ChristmasRead

A perfect, feel-good romantic novel to curl up with this Christmas. A story of new beginnings, love and friendship. Perfect for the fans of Jenny Colgan and Lucy Diamond.

Ellie Browne has left behind her high-flying job in London to return to the charming Buckinghamshire village of Little Leyton. Working shifts at The Dog and Duck and running her own doggy-day-care business, Ellie’s looking for a much simpler way of life and a good old fashioned Christmas.

But Little Leyton’s landscape is changing; Johnny Tay, Ellie’s ex, wants to pick up where they left off; sultry property developer Max Golding, has moved into the village and is ruffling feathers; and rumour has it that the pub, which holds a special place in Ellie’s heart, might be sold. Suddenly, life’s looking a whole lot more complicated…

Can Ellie juggle her emotions and commitments in time to celebrate Christmas?

I loved the cover of this book as soon as I saw it, its not very often one sees a black cover that looks nice and Christmassy too.

This was a comfortable read with a nice little village pub. The characters were a good bunch and the story had a feel good vibe to it. There was nothing in this book that could upset anyone whatsoever. I found it to be a quick read and enjoyable throughout

Lily’s House by Cassandra Parkin

Thank You so much to @Legend_Press for the privilege of been able to review @cassandrajaneuk soon to be released #LilysHouse

Lily’s House has a voice that leaps out of the page and holds you tight. Fresh. Original. Spell-binding.’ — Jane Corry, author of My Husband’s Wife

Lily’s House is a beautiful story that carefully unravels the depth of love and lies in a family. Cassandra’s writing pulled me in from the first page and wouldn’t let me go until I’d finished. Even then it stayed with me for a long time.’ — Heidi Perks, author of Beneath the Surface

‘Unexpectedly dark and dream-like. I loved the twists throughout – a very enjoyable read.’ — Natalie K. Martin, No.1 Amazon best-selling author

Lily’s House is a beautiful, rich, haunting and addictive read. Cassandra Parkin effortlessly weaves magic in this story of long-gone secrets, self-discovery, empowerment, and love. The book is assured, mature… a masterpiece. I’ll never forget it.’ — Louise Beech, author of How to be Brave

When Jen goes to her grandmother’s house for the last time, she’s determined not to dwell on the past. As a child, Jen adored Lily and suspected she might be a witch; but the spell was broken long ago, and now her death means there won’t be any reconciliation.

Lily’s gone, but the enchantments she wove and the secrets she kept still remain. In Lily’s house, Jen and her daughter Marianne reluctantly confront the secrets of the past and present – and discover how dangerous we become when we’re trying to protect the ones we love

As soon as I heard that Cassandra had a new book on the horizon, I just knew I had to read it. I adored her last book The Beach Hut so really was looking forward to getting my teeth into more of her work.

I think the cover of Lily’s House is stunning, kind of magical. The content, what can I say. Cassandras writing reminds me a little of Virginia Andrews ( Flowers in the Attic. etc) and this really is a compliment. I adore how the story pans out, how you meet the characters, yet they keep you on your toes. This is so well written, I couldn’t put it down over the weekend. This, I feel, will be a number One.

I rate this book 5/5

I cannot wait until the 18th October when Cassandra and are holding a launch event, on that night I shall purchase a hot off the press copy of this fabulous book and even get the lovely author to sign it for me
